My First Post

Covering the greys

Finally, my first blog post.  I’m so very curious about this entire process and looking forward to learning and having some fun.  Learning about blogs, that is. Menopause, well that’s a different story. I’m not as excited about that but, as my Mom would say, it’s better than the alternative.  And…I admit that I’m curious about this new journey into AARP territory but would prefer to be an observer rather than a participant. So on both fronts, blogging and menopause, hold on – here we go!

The Black or White of Menopause

The menopause switch

This is not a racial commentary. It’s an observation of the simplicity of menopause. I’m either HOT or COLD. I’m either HAPPY or NOT HAPPY. I’m either AWAKE or ASLEEP. So it’s all very black or white, vanilla or chocolate, up or down simple. Two choices. Pick one. But remember at any given moment and without warning, it will switch.

Happy New Year!

Cheers!

Here’s hoping that 2011 brings you cool nights, breezy days, fashionable stretch-waist jeans, joy and the ability to remember where you left your keys, glasses and cell phone. Cheers!

10 Flings

Time for a fling...

10 Flings. In one night. That’s more than one per hour. Oh, you don’t think I mean ten flings? I mean ten blanket flings. C’mon now, we’re talking about menopause here. Let’s keep it clean (at least for the moment). I was curious since my husband told me during dinner that I wake him up at night with my violent blanket flings. So I counted. Ten glorious night sweats. No wonder I’m tired. Does blanket flinging  burn calories? Thank God for those cold spots at the bottom of the bed. I used to hate them. They are my saviour now. I’m adding a good night sleep to the things I miss. First on the list is my mind, second is a good night’s sleep.

The Menopause Pooch

Dublin or the dog with 1,000 names (Dubs, Dub, Dubbies, Doubles, Pup, Mutt, Doodledog, Dood, Doodle, Doodles and on and on...)

Do you have a menopause pooch? No, not that protrusion below your belly button that prevents you from seeing your pedicure. One of those. Up there. See that photo. Isn’t she cute? Have you noticed how many people add a dog to their family when their kids become teenagers? I’m one of them. Why? Why did I do it? I mean, I love my dog. She’s cute and cuddly and sits at my feet. She does almost everything I ask her to do. She follows me everywhere. She’s curious, playful, polite. She makes a bit of a mess. We can’t go away without a sitter or kennel. It’s like having a….baby. Oh wait. I get it. She needs me to take care of her and I need her to need me since, well, I have a teenager who doesn’t need me as much anymore. Ugh. Will it never end?
